On a cool calm Saturday morning in Otsego, the men's cross-country team took a tremendous step forward into legendary level racing against excellent competition. Despite a team finish of 4th place, the Panther pack was so superlative today, that the record board in the north gym will have to be completely redone. Senior superstar Jake Follett led the way with a 17th place medal in a time of 16:07, good enough to place him as the third fastest 5k runner in WOHS history. Senior captain Michael Dummer closely followed in 18th place with a 16:11, fast enough to grab the 5th spot on the record board. Junior captains Sebastian Ruiz and Boston Wilkinson finished in 19th and 20th places with times of 16:14 and 16:18 respectively. They are now the 7th and 12th fastest 5k runners in WOHS history. Freshman standout Max Post crushed the 34 year old freshman record for West Ottawa with a superb time of 16:26. Post is also in the top 20 of all time at WOHS at number 19. The top 7 was rounded out by Porter Yurk (45th place in 16:51) and Cam DeVries (49th in 16:53). In the varsity and JV races combined, the Panthers brought home 9 medals and 18 personal records. The Panthers next race will be on Saturday, October 4 at the Allegan invitational.
