Cross Country Men Take Second in Kalamazoo Central Invite

On a sunny Wednesday evening in Kalamazoo, the West Ottawa Men's Cross-country team faced off against 9 other teams in a field that included State Regional rivals Kalamazoo Central and Byron Center. The Panthers finished 2nd out of 10 teams with a score of 40 points, well ahead of third place Jenison (70 points) and just behind 1st place Kalamazoo Central (35 pts.). Seniors Cam DeVries (4th place, 16:57), Jake Follett (6th place, 17:04) and Michael Dummer (8th place, 17:08) led the way for WO, followed closely by freshman hotshot Max Post (10th place, 17:11} and junior Boston WIlkinson (12th place, 17:13). West Ottawa's top 7 was rounded out by junior Sebastian Ruiz (16th place in 17:20) and sophomore Brody Mulder (26th place in 17:57) In all, the Panthers placed 5 men in the "medals" while capturing 2nd place. Additionally the men managed 6 personal records on a true cross-country course that included a fairly good hill 2 times in the race. The next competitoin for the Panthers will be in their only home meet of the season, the 43rd annual Bredeweg Invitational, held on Saturday, September 6 on the middle school campus.
